I know I haven't been writing newsletters recently, but there is a reason for this. For the last few months I've been in the process of moving back to the UK from Tenerife. I know most people think I am crazy, but I have missed the UK these last 18 or so years. I still have a little stuff to sort out, but to all intents and purposes, I now live in North Wales with my family. Hopefully it will mean I can get to a few industry events in the UK this year. I am also hoping that I can get back into the habit of writing a newsletter most weeks.

Last month I offered some great deals on my Udemy courses to existing students. I still have some of the May coupons available, so wanted to offer them to my newsletter subscribers as well. These courses are for anyone actively involved in an online business, or anyone that wants to start one.
But first, a little background information...
I actually started my online business building affiliate websites. My very first affiliate site was a gift website, selling all manner of affiliate products. My very first affiliate commission was a coin sorter, with a $2.49 commission. I sold several in my first month, but the commission that changed my life and made me believe in the affiliate model was a little bigger. It came in my second month as an affiliate, and was over $500 commission on a $2000 sale of some Russian plates at the Sovietski Collection website. I'm not even sure if they are still going, but I did get that commission check, and it made me a believer.
For the next few years, I worked full time on building affiliate sites, which naturally lead into other areas I needed to learn, like Wordpress (when it came on the scene), SEO, CSS etc. As a hobby programmer, I even created software to help me build affiliate sites, called SEO Website Builder. That software helped a lot of people create income-generating websites. I still create software today (like Web Content Studio), but also write books and teach.
Today, I maintain a number of affiliate websites, but they are built very differently to the way we did it in the early years. Today is much more about quality. The courses I have on Udemy teach the principles I use on a daily basis. My latest course is shows you how I create high quality affiliate websites.
During May, I offered my Webmaster-Related courses at roughly 50% discount to my current Udemy students. I say roughly, because one or two may be a dollar out here or there due to Udemy's pricing policy, but it's as close to 50% as I can get. I've listed the courses that are available below. Install Wordpress Locally - this course shows you how to install Wordpress on your own computer (PC or Mac). This type of local install is private, and only seen by you, so why is it useful? Well, if you are trying to learn Wordpress (e.g. you are taking my Wordpress for Beginners course) and want to learn without having to pay for a domain and web hosting, then a local install is a smart idea. A lot of webmasters setup local installs when they want to make some big updates to an existing site. Simply download the live website to a local computer, make all the changes locally (which do not affect the online site), and when the upgrade is complete, and everything is working, upload it back to the server. This allows sites to go through major changes with zero downtime. A third reason someone might want to install Wordpress locally is when they are testing plugins or themes or maybe just building a website that they want to keep

Something a little different today, and it's only for those of you living in EU/EEA countries.
If you work online, chances are you have the same problem that I've had since the turn of the century (boy that makes me sound old).
I have worked online for over 15 years. During that time, I've lived in Spain and needed first pesetas, then euros to live on. However, I do also need to have money in pounds sterling for UK stuff. The problem is that most of my income is in dollars. One thing that has never changed in those 15 years is the high costs of converting money from one currency to another. Banks everywhere take out transaction fees, and then even more by using exchange rate margins. On a 2,000 euro exchange, I could lose 100 euros to the banks. Well not any more. I've started using a service called CurrencyFair. It's a peer-to-peer service that just makes sense. e.g. If I have 2,000 euros and want that exchanged to sterling, and there is another person with pounds sterling but want euros, we can simply swap close to the current interbank rate. No currency margins and no transaction fees. Well there is a fee, but it is small (around 3 euros) and
you can actually get your first transfer without paying that fee. To find out about this service and to claim a free transfer, watch my video here:

Hi Peter
Over the last few years, my focus has changed a lot with my online business. In the early days it was all SEO and affiliate websites, and that moved into other areas like software, Kindle publishing and online teaching in recent years. As a result, my newsletters have also changed focus somewhat. From some of the comments I get in my inbox, I think a lot of people miss the good old days.
If you miss all of the excitement of building affiliate sites and seeing that passive income coming in every month, do not despair. I have some good news. My latest course on Udemy is all about building affiliate websites (the way I build them). Yes, I do still actively build affiliate sites, and yes, they do bring in a good passive income every month. I am a great believer in diversifying your online business, and affiliate websites remain a big part of my business. And the best part of all? I don't worry about Google penalties. In the last 3 years of building sites (the new way), I have not had a single affiliate site penalized or lose rankings in Google.
Let me be honest here. I have had one or two sites that haven't quite matched my expectations, but that was down to me, not Google.

In this newsletter, I want to briefly remind you about the price increases on Udemy courses that come into effect on the 4th April (that's less than 2 days from now). I also wanted to point our some required viewing/reading for anyone interested in SEO and ranking on Google.

On April 4th, Udemy are capping course coupons to a maximum of 50% of the course price.
