The course starts off with a detailed look at the Gutenberg editor as understanding that is a requirement for getting the most out of the full site editor. We'll go over the interface, the principles, and quite a few of the individual blocks available to you, including the cover block which allows you to create parallax effects. We'll also look at the power of resusable blocks and block patterns. We finish that section by creating a sample post, using some of the blocks and techniques discussed in the section.
In the next section of the course, we'll look at the principles of full site editing and how it all works. WordPress themes are built up of templates, so we'll explore how templates and template parts are integral to the full site editing concepts. We'll also look at global styles, where you have control over the global styles of your site, including individual blocks. You want to change the look of buttons on the entire site? No problem! You want to use a bigger font? Easy! We'll finish this section by looking at the colour palette, which you can use to import your own custom colours that you have chosen for your design.
With templates controlling every aspect of site design, it is vitally important you know what templates are required for different parts of your site. The next section of the course will reinforce this by getting you to build a complete (although basic) WordPress theme that is compatible with the full site editor. You'll create several different templates that each affect a different part of your site. In doing this, you'll get to see first hand how the templates you create affect the layout of posts, pages, search pages, 404 page, homepage, archive pages, etc.
In the final section of the course, we'll use all the knowledge we've gained to inspect the Twenty Twenty Two theme. This theme is the flagship Full Site Editing theme released by WordPress with version 5.9 and after exploring how it was made, I am sure you'll agree that it isn't that scary. As part of this section, we'll also discuss custom templates, and create a simple landing page template within the Twenty Twenty Two theme.
