A few days ago I told you about Joanne Reid, the first author to
submit her details for the Web Content Studio Outsourcing centre.
Joanne got some very postive feedback from her demo article (I ask
the authors to write about an aspect of "Outsourcing"), and I hope
she gets a lot of work as a result. You can read her details here:

Today, another author submitted his details. John Coutts is like a
friend to me (though I have never met him). I have chatted many
times with him via email since he bought Web Content Studio. For
him, the tool expanded his business and allowed him to charge more
for his work. What's even better is that his customers loved him
for his increased charges - simply because his work brought them
even more business than usual.

In my opinion, these two writer are extremely talented.

Incidentally, I am not making any kind of commission on these
authors. If you hire them, they get all the proceeds. I might add
that they fully deserve it as they do all the research before
writing the content. They will look at your guidelines, find the
best theme words and phrases for the content and write outstanding
articles that the search engines will love (just see some of the
comments that Joanne has received already).

This type of content is not typical of your average Elancer. Read
the demo articles that these authors have written and you'll see
why they can charge more than an Elance writer for their work!

2. SEO Experts Academy - IMPORTANT

As I mentioned earlier today, the SEO Experts Academy was released

I have been asked many times to recommend authors that are
experienced users of Web Content Studio (and the themeing features
built into it).

Web Content Studio is becoming an increasingly important part of
many webmaster's toolkits (especially since the first Panda crashed
through the SERPs). The big problem is that a lot of people want
to outsource their quality, themed content creation.

A few weeks ago, I started an Outsource Centre where authors who
know how to use the tool can submit their profiles and an example
of their work. It's been a long wait, but yesterday the first
author submitted their demo article and bio.

Joanne is a very experienced writer (as you can see from her bio)
and scored a maximum 100% Quality theme score in her demo article.

2. SEO Academy Released

In the last newsletter I mentioned a video that showed how to get
PR 7 links. While that technique isn't really a long term solution
(as the links will slide off the page eventually and they are
somewhat spammy in nature), the second video in the series gave a
much better plan for good quality backlinks.

Well, today, the guys behind those videos (Matt & Terry) have
released an SEO Course called the SEO Academy.

I am not familiar with Matt Carter, but I have known about Terry
Kyle for quite sometime. For many, he is the go to man for
backlinking help. I am going to buy the course in a few minutes,
and I'll write a full review of it in my next newsletter.

If you are sitting on the fence about this, you can wait until I
have checked it out. The price will be going up on 1st November,
but I'l have my review ready in a few days.

How to Submit a Reconsideration Request to Google

Google recently revised its "reconsideration" process, the steps by which webmasters or site owners appeal to the search engine to review and revoke penalties. Understand Google's reconsideration process to ensure you're prepared if your site ever goes afoul of the search engine's quality guidelines so you'll be able to get it back in Google's good graces.

Sometimes referred to as a reinclusion request, Google has a formalized process by which it considers removing manual actions taken against sites in violation of its guidelines. It is essentially an apology letter to Google. You admit you messed up, tell them how you fixed it and promise you won’t do it again. If they think you’re sincere and that you have fixed the problems and aren’t going to do it again, then they lift the penalty.

The Japanese population is known as a technological early adopter and Internet adoption has been no exception. The Japanese Internet market is listed among the top in terms of Internet penetration rate at 78.2 percent in 2010. It is ripe for online consumer communications for businesses looking at international markets.

According to one Japanese search marketing services provider, the country has one of the largest e-commerce markets in the world. Japan was among the first to embrace mobile Internet communications and commerce and is considered one of the most active social media markets. The Japanese Internet population is highly engaged in social media networks, most notably on Twitter and through blogs.

With such high engagement and potential reach through Internet channels, it's no surprise that growth is forecast for online marketing in Japan, despite a year with economic setbacks.

One of the most difficult questions a client often asks is, "How much money can be made with this SEO project?" The answer to this is always a tricky one as there are many variables involved.

One of the Bruce Clay Australia directors, Des Odell, has written a great article about SEO ROI, which outlines ways to estimate potential additional traffic from an SEO project and then put a value on the additional traffic, either by added revenue or by cost savings from traffic replacement through other media.

To estimate the additional traffic volume gained from an SEO project, you have to know what the current rankings are, what the traffic volume is from the current rankings, and then forecast additional volume from the new rankings.

Search Marketing Events Coverage

This past month was all about education in the Web marketing industry. First, there was SEO classroom training by Bruce Clay, Inc. in Southern California, then Wappow!’s Search and Social conference in Hawaii, the Bend WebCAM conference in Bend, Ore., and BlueGlass TPA in Tampa, Fla., to name a few. If you didn’t make it to any of these, we have coverage of what you missed.

First, Bruce Clay, Inc.’s SEO training in California was pretty much business as usual, but for the first time ever, the company’s webcast, SEM Synergy, broadcast straight from the classroom, interviewing real people with real search marketing challenges and opportunities. It was an insightful look into the varying levels of needs amongst the always-diverse SEO classroom that Bruce Clay, Inc. hosts.

The second-annual Wappow! Search and Social conference brought together industry movers and shakers in an island setting to share the latest research and tactics for social media, and to talk developments in its impact on search. Bruce Clay keynoted the event, and hot topics were the recent changes to Facebook from the f8 developer conference, and data on how to use the information that’s available to everyone through Facebook’s Graph API, to improve social strategies. Don’t miss the Search and Social liveblogging coverage for highlights of the sessions, and check out what you missed from the SEM Synergy that was broadcast from the conference.

The Bend WebCAM (Web + Creative and Marketing) conference in the Pacific Northwest hosted progressive sessions aimed at exposing designers to Web marketing best practices, and Internet marketers to creating a powerful brand image. Livebloggers covered what you may have missed, and you can check it out on the Pixelsilk blog.

BlueGlass Tampa conference covered the gamut of Internet marketing implementation and practical advice, including content and publishing strategy, SEO and social media integration, advanced PPC tactics, deep analysis of Web analytics and team building success strategies in an intimate setting in sunny Florida.

  Shuffles

Global Internet ad spending continues to increase, according to ZenithOptimedia. Display advertising is the fastest growing segment for Internet marketing, largely due to online videos and social media. By 2013, it is expected that online ads will overtake newspaper advertising to hold the second largest share of media purchasing.

Search engine market share numbers continue to fluctuate and the latest rankings are now available. Reviews by Macquarie Equities Research and UBS indicate a consumer-based search migration. Entering into the holiday season, Yahoo Shopping is expected to maintain market growth. Meanwhile, Google leads the overall rankings for traditional search.

The number of advertisers on Twitter's ad platform has grown 600 percent since last year. Twitter ad revenue is expected to reach nearly $400 million by 2013 as the company rolls out self-serve ads.

Google announced that Google+ has 40 million users.

Twitter is now fully integrated with Apple's iOS 5 mobile operating system, making it easy to post to Twitter through Apple's camera, maps and photos apps, among others.

ABC News and Yahoo are partnering on content and ad sales and will result in real-time news media in the Yahoo! content network of sites.

The online advertising market in Australia is predicted to grow an annual value of over $1 billion in 2016, according to a market report. Video ads and rich media are expected to have the highest growth, while demand for traditional online inventory such as display ads and EDMs is expected to decline.

Pubcon Las Vegas will occur November 8 to 11.

SES Chicago happens November 14 to 18.

Facebook is giving away 50 rebates to 200,000 small businesses who are first-time advertisers on the platform. Facebook's effort to educate businesses on social media marketing is done in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).

Apple has released the new iPhone 4S, enhanced with a new, voice-activated multi-media assistant, Siri. This new application will schedule your meetings and understand your personal dialog in addition providing feedback.

Amazon introduced tablet computer, Kindle Fire. It runs Google's Android software with Amazon's Silk browser, the latter of which gives Amazon a competitive advantage in customer intelligence.

Real-time search and greater hashtag functionality, which can be used by both users and marketers to find trending content, was introduced on Google+.

 
  Word on the Wire

Facebook has launched enhanced Page Insights, tools that allow page administrators to view additional metrics. Through the new Page Insights, advertisers can now view and report: "People Are Talking About This" metric; "Number of Friends of Fans" metric; and "Weekly Total Reach" metric. Facebook also released a new premium ad product to promote individual page posts.

An enterprise-level version of Google Analytics is now available to large customers for a fixed annual fee in the U.S., UK and Canada. Google Analytics Premium features more custom variables, advanced analysis, and service and support.

Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics are now linked, allowing site owners to surface search data in the reporting and analytics platform. Queries, landing page data and geographical summaries are listed under a new section called Search Engine Optimization in the Traffic Sources section of Webmaster Tools.

Facebook is facing scrutiny by U.S. regulators over the privacy implications of the social network's new "frictionless" sharing features.

The process for updating a listing in Google Places has been modified. Rather than requiring business owners to manually update listings, Google will update information based on sources on the Web identified by Google as reliable. Business owners are notified of the change by email.

Rumors are swirling about a possible merger between AOL and Yahoo! being supported by AOL CEO Tim Armstrong to make the ailing media company more attractive to advertisers.

Yahoo! Japan's Sponsored Search results will be fully powered by the Google AdWords' platform beginning in November.

Google Japan introduced typo correction for Japanese input.

 
  In Memoriam

The world morned the passing of technology visionary Steve Jobs. He died at 56 on October 5, 2011. A co-founder of Apple Inc., Jobs is revered as a revolutionary force behind personal computing and media consumption across the globe. In his 2005 Stanford commencement address, Jobs gave some rare insight into what drove him to greatness:

"Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."
