2. Paypal locked my account, TWICE.

3. Healthy Wealthy Affiliate Update & Questions answered.

4. Martin Avis Article - A Must read!

5. My New Course - an Update

Hi Peter

I've just got back from a short break in the south of the island
where it was really hot. I spent most of the time sitting in the
shade while my wife and kids plastered themselves with factor 50
sun cream and played by the pool. I am really not a sun person!

While I was away, I did check email on my mobile phone, and one was
from "Paypal" saying my account had been locked. I immediately
deleted it thinking it was a scam. However, without my computer I
could not be sure because I could not remember my Paypal password
(I use Roboform for that). I had recently had my account locked,
and it was very scary after reading horror stories, so I spent the
rest of my holiday worried about what I would find when I got back.
On my return, I was relieved to see that it had just been a scam.
However, it's a coincidence that one of the books I took with me to
read on the holiday was called Paypal Buddy - a kind of guide to
prevent your account being locked and what to do if it is. I'll
tell you about that in the newsletter.

I also have some answers to questions I received after promoting
Johnny G's "Healthy Wealthy Affiliate" course (the price for this
course goes up TOMORROW, 1st July!), plus some news about my
forthcoming course and a possible starting date.

In this issue:

1. Reader's question about Post-Panda Content.

2. A course that guarantees success?

3. A joke to finish

Hi Peter

In this newsletter I want to answer a question that I was sent
about writing content for your website in the aftermath of Google's
Panda update. One reader sent in her formula for great content, but
despite writing very informative articles using her system, it's
not enough if you want your sites to be a long-term business. I'll
explain why.

Also in the newsletter I want to tell you about a course that I
subscribed to that guaranteed to make me my first affiliate sale. A
lot of stuff is done for you, and in fact I did very little and
didn't even follow the guidelines in the course, yet I made two
affiliate sales from the system in the very first month. If I had
actually followed the course, I could have done so much better.
The guy who runs the course is a super-affiliate in health niches,
and he is your guide & mentor.

FEATURE: Google Panda Algorithm 2.2 Coming Soon
Author: Jessica Lee

This month at the Search Marketing Expo (SMX) Advanced conference in Seattle, the Farmer/Panda Google algorithm update (now shortened to just "Panda") was once again the topic of conversation. Except this time, the discussion was around Panda version 2.2.

Matt Cutts, head of Google's Web spam team, confirmed that a new iteration of Panda (version 2.2) has been approved internally, but was not yet rolled out. There's some speculation that it's been rolling out this week, but no confirmation from Google has come as of press time.

Some of the things we know from the talk with Cutts at SMX Advanced is that a coming iteration of Panda is looking to address the problem of scraper sites outranking original authors. Scraper sites are those sites that take content from others and republish it to their own websites.

June kicked off with the always informative SMX Advanced in lovely Seattle, Washington. The conference, which was limited to 1200 attendees, sold out more than a month in advance. If you missed out on the incredible sessions and speakers, fear not. Just as we always do, Bruce Clay, Inc. was there to liveblog the event as it happened. You can find all the coverage on the Bruce Clay, Inc. Blog but here are the highlights by session.

An SEO Turncoat

Don't panic everybody, I am definitely not trading my virginal white hat for one of a darker colour but I didn't think anybody wants to see another SEO blog post or article titled SEO agency vs. In-house, but that's exactly what this is about. It has been just shy of a year since I left the comfort of Bruce Clay Australia to tread the very different path of an in-house SEO for a very large Australian organisation, and what an interesting year it has been. I recently ran into all my old cohorts from Bruce Clay Australia at SMX Sydney and besides discussing the shifting search-scape and the impact of the Panda update, it was suggested I should write a blog post to celebrate my 1 year(ish) anniversary of leaving Bruce Clay. I thought it was a great idea and this brings us to this article, comparing the different nuances and experiences from an agency SEO to an in-house one. So without further waffle, let's go!

Introducing Schema.org

Major search engines Google, Bing and Yahoo! joined together for Schema.org, a service that provides more detailed, unified HTML markup for content contained within Web pages.

The goal: to help search engines better understand what's on a site and use that information to serve up specifics in the search results and provide a richer search experience.

Schema.org provides code that will help distinguish an item on a page by assigning data for people, places and things or reviews, ratings and creative works, to name a few.

At the keynote session at Search Marketing Expo (SMX) Advanced conference this month, debate about the "extra work" this markup presents to webmasters was discussed, and the fact that search engines are the responsible party for this work.

Bing's Stefan Weitz explained in the keynote session that data is scattered on the Web, and that the search engines need to gather all the data on something and reassemble it into an object.

For example, all the bits of data that's available about a stapler on the Web needs to be collected and reassembled into the object, stapler.

Schema.org reinforces the importance of the extra markup by stating that automatic data extraction can be error prone. And with regards to the extra work, Schema.org states that marking up all properties of an item is not necessary, but good practice.

This is because the more information that can be provided about something, the better the search experience for users.

Also verified at SMX Advanced: Schema.org markup does not factor into indexing, rankings or relevancy at the moment; but some speculate it could in the future.

IMS #203 - How to SEO for YouTube - June 16 2011

Internet Marketing Secrets
IMS #203 - June 16 2011
How to SEO for YouTube

Peter,

A teenage girl's music video earned
over 250K in the first couple of months.
A quarter million! That total has probably
doubled by now. Not bad for a teenager!

How did she do it? With ads in the video.

As soon as you hit about 1,000 views,
Google will ask permission to advertise on
your video. When you login to your account
you'll see, "Apply for partnership to take
advantage of your popular video."

If you can make it into the "Featured" or
"Trends" section, you've hit the YouTube
jet stream. The highly coveted home page,
in front of millions of people.

To get there takes a mighty viral push.
You'll need to wrangle the support of all
your social networks, Facebook and Twitter
followers. Here's how...

SEO for your YouTube video depends on
four things:

- How many views you get
- How many thumbs up you get
- How many comments you get
- How quickly you get all the above

Keep in mind the following tips...

A view counts if it's over 5 seconds long.
Make the opening seconds surprise and
amaze.

Tell them in the text under the video,
to click on the thumbs up icon, aka the
"Like" button. Don't assume they know
what to do.

Make an emotional appeal to the viewer.
Ask them to leave a quick comment.
Even if its just a single sentence. Every
little bit helps.

Notes on Viral...

Most viral videos are funny, amazing,
surprising or entertaining. Without one or
more of these, your video will sputter on
the way to the jet stream.

How to Optimize Your YouTube Channel...

- Put your most important keywords in
the video title

- Repeat the keywords in the description
and tags

- Don't use a fancy design or border
around the video

- Keep the page design simple, with
a white background

- Make sure the video preference is
set to auto play

- Put a clickable links in video's
description (Facebook, Twitter)

Important Notes from TubeMogul.com
(The video syndication dudes.)

TubeMogul's data shows that video has a
short shelf life. They did a case study of
10,000 videos that had at least 1,000
views. The biggest traffic spike came at
three days.

They suggest that you put out a lot of
videos, because they peak early. The
maximum views come when you do a series
of short videos and upload a new one every
few days. Thursday afternoon and Sunday
evenings are peak viewing times.

They also suggest that you, "Put the name
of your brand in the video title, because
some services list only the title. It's
important to be consistent and put out
topically related videos, as it increases
your overall rankings in Google."

Additional Promotion

In addition to doing the SEO for YouTube,
ask your viewers to bookmark you on
Delicious. If you make it to their "What's
Hot" home page, you can get a boost of
extra momentum.

Be sure to monitor your keywords using
Google Alerts and the Twitter home page.
Participate in every discussion about you
and your brand. Link to the video
everywhere you comment.

Be voracious thank you note writers.
Jot a note every time someone mentions
you. Even if its just a couple of words to
say thanks. It goes a long way.

Remember what TubeMogul said, the
biggest spike comes at the three day
mark. So upload that video and spend
the next three days promoting it like
crazy, using the strategies I've outlined
above.

Who knows, maybe your video will hit
the jet stream and go viral. Say yes to
Google advertising and one silly video
could generate all the coin you need
for a lifetime. It happens to others.
It could happen to you.

take care,

Michael
