SEO Newsletter Vol 124: Pitfalls to Avoid for Mobile Websites

Bruce Clay, Inc. Newsletter
  SEO Newsletter | Vol 124 | July 16, 2014 This Month's News
  Feature
Could Disappearing Author Photos in Google SERPs Signal Coming Author Rank?
Author: Kristi Kellogg

Google has removed photos of authors powered by authorship markup from search results. Since the change was announced last month, search marketers have speculated about why. Some suspect Google's interest in ad revenue is a major motivation. Google says its intent is to de-clutter the SERP. And a Bruce Clay, Inc. analyst suggests that removing author photos may lead to a less-spammed utility that Google can use as a trustworthy ranking signal. In this exploratory article we:

  • Review the proper application of authorship markup and when it is appropriate to use
  • Outline several theories for why Google has changed author info displayed in SERPs and evaluate the likelihood of each
  • Look at what Google may be doing to clean up authorship and author authority as an eventual ranking signal

Hi Peter

I told you my goal for June was to finish my new book called
"Writing Web Content". Well, I missed my deadline by two
days, but only because I lost three days at the dentist! Anyway, I
finished the first draft on Tuesday this week, and will be looking
to release it on Amazon Kindle towards the end of next week.
I'll announce the release in this newsletter when it's up.

OK, I have another Wordpress tutorial for you. This is one of the
questions I get asked more than any other, and it used to be
complicated to achieve this. However, if you use Genesis or any of
its child themes, it's now very easy.

Have you ever wanted to add an introduction to your category pages
(and/or tag pages)? In this tutorial I'll show you how, as
well as give you a couple of ideas as to why it's important.

If that is something that interests you, you can watch the video
here:

all the best
