Hi Peter

Please note that you can read this online where there are a few photographs, and you can leave comments:

Life here in North Wales is very different to the life I had in Tenerife. But I am loving it. One of the nice things about moving to a new area (in my case a new country), is there is so much to explore. The cooler weather, history, places to visit, and let's not forget the wonderful Parisella's ice cream shop in Conwy. If you ever come up to North Wales, Parisella's is well worth a visit. All of the ice cream I have tried there is fantastic, but my special recommendation would be for the Welsh Honey & Honeycomb. I happily drive 15 minutes to Conwy to get one. And what a wonderful town to enjoy that ice cream. The amazing medieval castle, the 14th Century Aberconwy House, Plas Mawr dating back to the late 1500s. Steeped in history, this picturesque seaside town also has an amazing quayside, boasting the UK's smallest house. I would have taken a photo of the inside to show you, but my camera would not focus properly (the far
wall was too close). It's just 6 foot wide and 10 foot high. Apparently one of the previous owners was a 6ft 3 inch sailor that had to sleep with his feet out of the window. If you have a few moments to spare, I highly recommend you look up Conwy on Google and switch to image search. If you ever come up to North Wales, shoot me an email and I'll meet you for an ice cream (or beer, in the haunted Liverpool Arms down by the quayside).

One thing that hasn't changed much is work. I am still plugging away at building affiliate sites, creating new courses and working on some new software. A big part of my work is writing. I am fortunate that I enjoy researching content and writing, but in the last couple of years I have started outsourcing more and more of my website content. There is one writer I trust 100% who has never let me down. If I have a project to do, I always turn to him first to see if he is free to take on the work. His name is Andy H, and some of you may have used him as well (I have recommended him in the past).

Andy H started out as my book editor, and moved into writing content for me when I told him I needed a writer. He sent me an email last week, telling me about a problem he is currently experiencing on Upworks. There is a glitch affecting a few people that prevent them from bidding on jobs. That means there is an opportunity for anyone looking for a great writer (or editor, proof-reader, etc), because Andy has less work on at the moment.

Andy is an ex-English teacher, so knows his stuff. He has specialized in helping students where English is a second language, with a focus on conversational fluency, reading comprehension, grammar focus and business presentation skills. Andy is also a web publisher, and runs his own affiliate websites, so knows that side of the business. Andy also has a course on Udemy called English Grammar 101 (which I narrated for him). That is usually near #1 on Udemy when searching for English Grammar, so as I said, Andy knows his stuff.

So, if you have any content writing requirements and you need to outsource to someone you trust, you cannot pick a better person for the job. I've included his Upwork bio link below. You will need to login to Upwork (go signup if you haven't got one) to view the profile. You can see the kinds of work he has been doing, and the types of responses he is getting for his work. As I said, this is a great opportunity if you need quality content. Since Andy cannot currently bid on jobs, he has a little free time to take on some new work (he is usually booked solid).

Here is his profile page: http://www.upwork.com/o/profiles/users/_~01e298f14d40cc8b59/

If you want to check out some of the work he has done for me, take a look at this website of mine:

http://fishyfats.com/

Apart from the homepage which I think was mine, Andy wrote all of the other content on that site. I was running a course on Udemy about building affiliate sites and did not have the time to write all the content I wanted, so got him to do it.

While I am on the topic of Udemy, I also just released a new course called Wordpress Backup & Restore.

If you own a Wordpress site, you really do need to make sure you back it up in case of any issues (hacking, server breakdown, etc). The course shows you everything you need to know, including how to manually backup and restore, as well as setting up an automated system to backup on a schedule and upload backups to Dropbox (or other online storage area). The course was approved last night, so for the release period, I have included a $10 coupon link below:

For anyone interested in learning Wordpress, I release a new version of my Wordpress for Beginners book on Kindle. It's called Wordpress for Beginners 2016, and covers the latest version of Wordpress. Again, for the release, I have put the price down. Today it is just $2.99. Here is the link to read more about that book:

That's all for now. Hope to see you in Conwy sometime soon...

Have a great weekend.

Cheers

Andy

Why You Don't Need that Link to Get the SEO Benefit from an Online Name Drop: The Power of Linkless Mentions

We talk a lot about links in the SEO industry. Here Duane Forrester talks about the absence of links. How a mention without a link is good for SEO.

What are linkless mentions? They happen when someone mentions your business or brand online without a hyperlink. This is also known as linkless attribution.

We're not talking about spam mentions. Comment spam is not transferring credibility to your business. Search engines likely use the same quality assessment filters on linkless mentions as they do hyperlinks. Read all about:

  • The diverse set of clues the engines use to determine a site's expertise, authority, trust and relevance (hint: it's a lot more than links)
  • How positive and negative mentions of your business or brand, even mentions without links, can send signals to search engines
  • The true value of public relations for SEO customer reach

In advance of AMP expanding in Google Search, over the next few weeks Google is posting pointers to help businesses "AMPlify" their websites. Follow or post with the #AMPlify hashtag on Google+ and Twitter for the tips and conversations.

As AMP features and specifications evolve, marketers can capitalize on improved UX and ranking opportunities by staying up to date on AMP.

Get your team up to speed in the #AMPlify age. Here's a primer on the AMP opportunity. We outline:
