All you need to do, is to spend a little
time learning the Kindle reader software.
After an hour, things like bookmarking and
highlighting become second nature. Plus
its way faster to use the search function
to find stuff later.

If it helps, read research books like
Ultimate Heat Map on your computer,
instead of some other device. Open the
book in one window using the Kindle
reader software. Then open a writing
app in another window, so you can make
summary notes while reading.
