In previous years, my wife had just given out her phone number and people booked over the phone. However, this lead to phone calls seven days a week at all hours of the day and night. She asked me if I could create a booking site for her event where people could select an available date and time and pay online without having to phone in the booking.
I did a little research online and I have to tell you, it was difficult to find anyone offering this type of site creation (hint: a great business idea?), at least at sensible rates. I decided to create the site myself with WordPress.
As a veteran WordPress user, I knew there would be a way to do this with WordPress, so I did the research and found what I consider to be the perfect plugin for the job.
The site I had to build needed to have defined dates and times where the service was available, and visitors could select a date and time and book that slot. The slot would then be unavailable to anyone else. To make things more complicated, there were different "services" available with varying costs. The system had to be flexible and automatically calculate the price of the service selected. I also needed to create another booking form for a one off event that could seat 100 people. That event was a one-off on Christmas Eve between 10-12 in the morning. Visitors could book for one or more people, and that number was taken off the 100 to make sure the event didn't go over capacity.
This course will show you the site I built and the steps I took to achieve my goal. If you want to see that site, I've enabled a free preview of the lesson where I take you on a tour of the final web site. Just click the link at the end of this email to visit the sales page and you'll see a free preview for the lesson "The Site we will build".
The course starts with an introductory section where I give you details on what is covered in the course as well as getting WordPress installed and ready for the build.
We'll then familiarise ourselves with the booking plugin that we will use and have a look at a demo calendar system. Once that is under our belts, we'll go through step-by-step to build the site, including customisations of the homepage, header and footer.
With the site built, we'll then look at adding payments to the site to you can take PayPal, Credit cards, cash on deliver, bank transfer, etc.
I'll finish the course with a reference section that covers some of the plugin settings that we didn't use in the site build.
The course has over four hours of video with 46 lectures in total.
By the end of this course, you will be able to set up an online booking system for yourself, or for a client.
I wanted to offer all of my newsletter subscribers coupons for this course at just 9.99. Coupons are good for the next 5 days.
